Attendance, Uniform, and Dues Policies
General Information
The Ship’s program is divided into two seasons: Spring (January-May) and Fall (June-December). A Bridge of Honor (awards ceremony) is held at the end of each season. Summer meetings (July and August) are optional but encouraged.
Attendance Requirements

Ship Meetings: Attend at least 50% of regular Ship meetings each season.

Cruises and Activities: Participate in at least two weekend cruises/activities per season.

Competitions: Attend Ancient Mariner Regatta (Spring) and Southwestern Rendezvous (Fall).

Quarterdeck Members: Attend all Quarterdeck meetings and show leadership by participating in crew work parties.
Failure to meet these requirements may result in ineligibility for rank advancement. Extreme unexcused absences could lead to dismissal from the Ship.
Uniforms

Working Uniform: Islander t-shirt and sweatshirt, white web belt, blue jeans, and deck-appropriate shoes.

Formal Uniform: Traditional U.S. Navy jumper (modified), 13-button pants, white leggin’s, white pistol belt, white gloves, “dixie cup” Navy hat with Sea Scout emblem, and black Navy Oxford shoes.
Consistent failure to wear proper uniforms may affect advancement eligibility.
Dues and Fees

Dues: $280 collected twice a year (February and September).

Total annual dues: $560 ($47 per month).

Dues cover dock fees, insurance, boat maintenance, and competition fees.

Financial assistance is available for those in need. It is the policy of Ship 16 that the experience of the Ship 16 program will not be denied to any individual who is in financial difficulty.
Alcohol, Tobacco, and Non-Prescription Drugs

Alcohol, tobacco, and non-prescription drugs are strictly prohibited.

Prescription medications must be kept by an adult leader, except for EpiPens and asthma inhalers.

College students can remain registered as youth participants until age 21.
